Abstract

Atmospheric aerosol pollution has a significant impact on meteorological and climatic processes and air quality in urban agglomerations. Urban aerosol is mainly formed from emissions from industrial and energy enterprises, transport, and waste incineration. Despite a slight decrease in aerosol emissions in many megacities of the world in recent decades, aerosol forcing plays a significant role in shaping the urban and regional climate. In the 21st century, studies have appeared on the effects of powerful aerosol emissions from the destruction of buildings, as well as reducing aerosol pollution with reduced economic activity on urban air quality. This review describes the main types of urban aerosol, its optical and radiation properties, methods and results of accounting for the aerosol factor in various mesoscale climate models.
